Culture of India

India, a part of the Asian continent is a land of diversity. India is one of the largest and most populous countries in the entire world. For its unique geographical location, India has become a home to people belonging to religious communities. The diversity is evident from everything in India. You would find diversity in languages, diversity in traditions, diversity in lifestyle of people, diversity in rituals, diversity arts, literature and even in sports. But still people of India or Indians are living with peace keeping hand in hand and that is why unity in diversity is described as one of the main characteristics of India. This unique concept of unity in diversity has made a huge impact on the culture of India.

Just like all other things, the culture of India is very diverse in nature and varies from one part of the country to another. There is no similarity between cultural traditions maintained by the people residing in Northern part India and those living in its Southern part. Rituals followed by people of Bengal has got no similarity to that of people of Maharashtra, Punjab and Gujarat. Even there is diversity in the way of worshiping Gods and Goddess also, though a major percentage of the population of India belongs to Hinduism religious community. Diversity is clearly evident from the fairs and festivals too, that are important parts of the culture of India. Apart from that, art and literature in different parts of India also speak about the diversity in the culture of India. The religious and historical monuments that are scattered in all parts of the country are greatest specimens of different art and cultures of people of early days. Built By Shah Jehan in Agra as a memorial of his wife Mumtaz, is the greatest specimen of Mughal art and also one of the seven wonders of the world.

This unique diversity in the climate of India also contributes largely in the agricultural production of the country. It is due to variation in climate of India, that wide variety of crops are grown in its different parts that ultimately helps in the economic development of the country.
