At present, the estimated population of India is 1.12 billion which makes it the second most populous country in the world. And as per a recent survey, India is likely to become the most populous country in the world. However, apart from rate of population, there are several other things to be mentioned about the demography of India. One of the most important things to be mentioned about the demography of India is that the country is home to people belonging to various religious communities. While major percentage of the population of the country are Hindu, you would also get to see large number of Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and Christians. In the Southern part of the country, people mostly speak in Tamil, Telugu and Kannad language, Marathi is most commonly used in Maharshatra. Located in the eastern part of the country, Bengali is the main language for the people of West Bengal and people of Orissa speak in Oriya language.
Rate of literacy is also a vital part of the demography of India. At present, literacy rate in India is above 64 per cent and it is maximum in the state of Kerala.
