India, the country located in the Southern part of the Asian continent is the largest democracy of the world. India is a democratic republican country and is governed by a federal form of government. According the Constitution of India, the President is the head of the state and the Prime Minister is the head of the government. At present United Democratic Alliance, an alliance of Indian National Congress and the Left Front is ruling the Union Government of India with Dr. Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister and Mrs Pratibha Patel as the President. It is the duty of the union government to look after the welfare of the people of the country and several other issues among which foreign relations and military in India is one of the most important.

Foreign relations and military in India are linked with each other. Military have got nothing to do when the country is having cordial relations with other nations, but if the relation deteriorates for any reason, then military forces are needed for defending the country. Speaking about foreign relations and military in India it must be mentioned here that since its independence from Britishers in the year 1947, India has maintained a good foreign relation with most of the countries.
However, India's relation with Pakistan, one of its closest neighboring countries have deteriorated several times in the past which resulted in wars. Kashmir is the main reason behind the never-ending conflict between these two neighboring countries. Since its independence, Pakistan has been claiming Kashmir as its property but India do not agree on that. Besides, India's relation with its another close neighbor, China also deteriorated in the past that resulted in the Sino-Indian War, but now the countries are having a good ties.
Speaking about foreign relations and military in India, it has to be mentioned here that the country has got the third largest military force in the world and has got three wings, Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Air Force. The president of India is the supreme commander of the military forces in the country. At present, A K Antony is the Union defense minister of India and it is his duty to, look after the welfare and development of the people working in the Army, Navy and the Air Force.
