Geography

India is one of the largest and most populous countries in the eastern part of the world and has got several unique features. Geography of India is one of its most unique features which has contributed largely to its cultural diversities, economic development, transportation and tourism.

Speaking about geography of India the first thing to be mentioned is its geographical location. India is located in the Southern part of the Asian continent. For its wonderful geographical location, India is surrounded by mountains on one side and by water bodies in three ides. The Northern and Northeastern part of India are surrounded by snow-topped mountain ranges and that include the Himalayas, Kanchenjunga and Mt. Karakoram. Besides, evergreen and mangrove forests and wilderness areas are also there. The Eastern part of India is surrounded by Bay of Bengal, to its South lies the Indian Ocean and to its West is the beautiful Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Kutch. However, you would also find rough mountainous terrains and Thar desert in the Northwestern part of the country. These are some of the major reasons why millions of tourists from all corners of the globe visit India throughout the year.

Speaking about geography of India one needs to mention about the location of its neighboring countries. India shares its Western border with Pakistan and Northern border with China, Nepal and Bhutan To the east and Northeast of the country lie Bangladesh and Myanmar and Sri Lanka is very close to the southernmost tip of India.



The rivers flowing through its different parts are also major parts of geography of India. Large part of Northern and Northwestern part of India are fed by the waters of several rivers. Punjab, one of the major states in the Northwestern part of the country is fed by five rivers and that is why has been given such a name which means the land of fiver rivers. Besides, rivers like Narmada and Chambal have flown through the Central part of the country, Tista, Rangeet and Brahmaputra are major rivers that feed the Northeastern part of India, Ganges has flown through its Eastern part and Godavari and Kaveri are major rivers flowing through the South India.

The states and cities are also important parts of geography of India. To the North of the country, lies, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal and Arunachal Pradesh, To its West lies Punjab, Gujarat and Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh lies in the Center of the country, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Assam, Bihar, Jharkhan, Chhattisgarh lie in its Northeast, West Bengal and Orissa are in its Western part and Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu are in the Southern part of the country.
