Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state in the north-east region. The most sparsely populated states of India, Arunachal Pradesh, is a land of lush green forests, deep river valleys and beautiful plateaus. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people. The principal crop is rice, and other important crops include maize, millets, wheat, pulses, potato, sugarcane and oilseeds.
Itanagar, the capital city of the state of Arunachal Pradesh is nestled on top of low flat hills. The city is also known as the Land of the Dawn Lit Mountains. Some historians identify Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh with the ancient 11th century BC capital of Mayapur, under the Jitari dynasty. Itanagar today is divided into two parts, each 10 km apart from each other, with the older one named Naharlagun.
The weather and the climate of Arunachal Pradesh is quite distinct from the rest of the country. The climate of the State is dominated by the Himalayan system and the attitudinal variations.
The climate is highly hot and humid at the lower altitudes. In the valleys covered by swampy dense forest particularly in the eastern section, it becomes exceedingly cold in the higher altitudes.
