Tourist Attractions

The North eastern state of Assam is known for its tropical rainforest, bamboo orchards, and the sanctuaries. The variety of tourist attractions in Assam in this beautiful region comes in the shape of mountains and valleys rich in flora and fauna. There are many tourist attractions like National parks, wildlife sanctuaries, cultural heritage areas and places of archaeological interest.

Kaziranga National Park established in 1905 as a reserve forest is the home to single-horn rhinoceros in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts is also a tiger sanctuary. The Kaziranga National Park has a large population of water buffalo, elephants and swamp deer. Kaziranga National Park is also home to many birds and has been recognized as an important bird area by Birdlife International.

Manas National Park is a Tiger Reserve Forest, an Elephant Reserve Forest and a Biosphere Reserve Forest and is the home to many endangered species like Assam Roofed Turtle, Pygmy Hog, golden Langur, and Hispid Hare. The forest village Agrang is also a tourist attraction in Assam.

Majuli is the largest island in the world situated in the middle of Bramhaputra River. There are more than 15 Vaishnava Monastries located in Majuli.

Kamakhya Temple, the temple of Goddess Kali is a one of the sacred place of the Saktipitas. It is 8 km from Guwahati.

Haflong is the picturesque hill station. The famous Jatinga where you can see the unexplained phenomenon of birds committing mass suicide is only 9 km from here.



Sibsagar is 60 km from Jorhat and 369 km from Guwahati. There are three temples of Shiva out of which the Shivadol is the tallest. There are a number of historical monuments dates back to the Ahom dynasty.

The Bhubaneshwari Temple is another famous tourist attraction in Assam. It is situated at a higher altitude than Kamakhya Temple from where you can take a look at the picturesque Guwahati.
